Spicy Morocco – Tangier

Spicy Morocco – Tangier

Situated on the northern coast of Africa, only a 1-hour boat ride away from southern Spain, and with a decidedly French history, many Tangier recipes reflect this European influence.

Four spices commonly used in Moroccan cooking are also used in Spanish recipes: saffron, cayenne, cumin, and black pepper.

Tangier cuisine sets itself apart with a host of additional spices: chili, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, and white pepper.

A busy square at sunset on the Rue d'Italie just a block from the Kasbah.

Grocery shopping in the Kasbah in Tangier is a colorful experience. This store specialized in canned goods and lentils.

Okra is a staple vegetable.
Street side cafes offer some very good coffee options, assuming you like it strong.
The color of Tangier doesn't stop with the foods. We found this side street while wandering the Kasbah.
